Domestic violence doesn’t just happen “out there” somewhere. It happens in our city, in our neighborhood, and on our street. It happens to men and women we see at work, the grocery store, the movie theater, and the PTA board meeting.
The first volume of Speak Your Peace Domestic Violence Anthology was released February 2013 with 14 survivors stories, and 12 sharing their story for the very first time. The Speak Your Peace Anthology will be an annual edition with a collective of short stories, poetry/spoken word, letters/words of encouragement, and information regarding the dynamics of domestic violence.
The Speak Your Peace series will involve a variety of people who have been affected by domestic violence from a child to adulthood either by being a victim, witness or abuser (perpetrator) of domestic violence.
We hope that anyone who is dealing with this issue, or knows someone in a similar situation, can find themselves in this book and find hope and healing. It is my wish to awaken anyone who will listen to the responsibility we all have to speak for those who do not have a voice.
We are looking for a variety of writers who will lend their voice and experience to the Speak Your Peace annual book series to empower others across the world from abuse.
Submission should include the following:
•Your experience with domestic violence. Please be detailed.
•Why you/they didn’t leave
•How you/they were able to escape from his or her abuser
•How you/they were able to heal or reclaim their self-esteem and healing
